One of my favourite bouquets from this summer, made by the lovely @petalforyourthoughts .
I chose the song “I could be a florist” for this post but I truly could not. I applied to be a florist once and in the interview I was asked to put together a bouquet. I quickly realized that it takes much more than just bunching a few pretty flowers together. Florists, I admire what you do and all the beauty you bring to a wedding day. #filmweddingphotographer

Summer is so gentle, it feels like a breeze through hanging linens, the smells of fresh blooms, the grass between my toes, the day slowly slipping into night.
Winter feels so harsh, it’s the cold bite of stepping outside, teeth chattering, the sound of scraping ice off windows, the dark swallowing up the afternoon. I just want to go back to summer for one day, and this was one of my favourite nights ☀️🌷

Good wedding photos require a lot of trust. Trust to let your walls down, trust to be vulnerable in front of all your favourite people, trust in being present and letting your photographer capture your day as authentically as they can. This day is an incredible example of that; one of my favourite photos from this day is the one of Courtney + Joe sharing the same smile at each other during their ceremony. Their love and excitement so palpable, I feel like their expressions are a reflection of each other…a perfect pairing. I felt their trust from day 1 of speaking, and through the whole process of planning their wedding. This is the second wedding I’ve photographed for this family, and I’ll be capturing a third wedding for one of the kiddos in May. The merging of all these families and bearing witness to it all has been so beautiful, and the way they’ve welcomed me with open arms is a testament to how kind they are. I truly could not have ended the year on a better note!

Good wedding photos require a lot of trust. November is a big month for me. I turn 34 this month, it marks 10 years since my first photo shoot, and 7 years since I took on weddings. Here’s a snippet of the journey. Happy to be here 🥹✨

Madison & Taylor. Where do I even start? Every single part of this day was so intentional. Madison spent the morning getting ready with all her girls, despite not having official bridesmaids. Same with Taylor and his boys. They got married at their favourite restaurant, where they celebrated closing on their first home. The band? They decided “we should have them at our wedding” after seeing them on a night out, even before they were engaged.
They had a wall adorned with photos of every single guest, including myself 🥺 a vintage photo booth, and a bestie on officiant duty. Lots of tears, lots of laugh, and a room full of so much love.

I love all kinds of weddings but this one in particular has some of my favourite things - details painted by hand; a restaurant with incredible food; a bouquet of wildflowers; an intimate guest list; and two artists wildly in love 😭💕 I seriously get to work with the coolest people!!!

Picnic love ♥️ when I mentioned this engagement idea to Harleen she had mentioned how on one of their first date’s she put flowers in Milton’s beard so naturally, we had to recreate that moment.

This was just one of those weddings that had SUCH incredible energy from start to finish. A rain cloud loomed over for most of the day, but never dampened anyone’s spirit. Matt told me he wanted “only 6 minutes of pictures” which brought me calm instead of chaos, as I knew they cared more about being with their people. That energy carried through to some of the best speeches I’ve ever heard, followed by a very rowdy dance floor. This day really felt like a joining of two families, (supported by one big friend group) rather than just the joining of two people. 100/10 day.

Also: maybe I’ll start mixing in little video clips to my posts since literalllly there’s no rule that you can’t???

Watching your friends get married is one thing; but seeing them in a room full of people who love them, and telling beautiful stories about their generosity and kind nature is something else. I found myself nodding along to all the wonderful things said about them, beaming with pride. Laura + Travis, you are so loved by all, I truly feel so lucky to have been able to fly out to Sarnia, experience it’s beauty and watch you say “I do”.

Watching one of your longest friends find someone who loves her THIS much makes me so incredibly happy. I could cry just looking at these photos.

Julia Rose is one of those people who’s so incredibly kind and talented, she’s supported me since I began. Hiring me at any chance she got, I feel so lucky to be the one who took her headshots whenever she makes another achievement in her artistic career.

Together they hand-wrote every guest a card, myself, hired vendors who were their friends, and collected a 4 leaf clover for every single guest (if you know Julia Rose, you’d understand).

Eternally greatful for this day! I had such an incredible time capturing it. 🍀

I have seen a lot of people shaming film users lately, and it’s usually things like “just because it’s a film photo, doesn’t make it better” or “everyone thinks they’re a film photographer now” etc.

Why are we gatekeeping anyone from making art! I would encourage anyone in their photography journey to try film, just for the experience of it. It’s not that film is better, or that you’re suddenly more artsy if you use it…it’s the way it forces you slow down in a world that’s incredibly fast-paced. Even if it’s something you just do for yourself in your personal time, it’s a beautiful reminder to pause and not rush through moments.
